Do you love the unique styling and impressive capability of the Jeep® Renegade — yet desire a vehicle that will offer you hybrid performance and efficiency? There’s good news on the way. By 2020, FCA is planning to release the first ever plug-in hybrid Jeep® Renegade. This new model will be built in Italy, and pre-production is expected to begin in 2019.
The upcoming plug-in hybrid version is just one of many updates and enhancements on the horizon for the Jeep® Renegade. The 2019 Renegade sets itself apart with some tweaks to its styling as well as an updated powertrain lineup. This model will offer a new 177-horsepower, 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in addition to the 2.4-liter four-cylinder Tigershark®.
The Renegade isn’t the only Jeep® model with eco-friendly powertrains in its near future. FCA has announced plans to release a new Jeep® Wrangler PHEV, and it’s expected to arrive for the 2020 model year. The company has also stated that part of its five-year plan is to create 12 new electrified powertrains by 2022, from hybrids to plug-in hybrids to fully electric vehicles. That’s great news for Jeep® lovers, who will soon have a new, capable, and green lineup to choose from.
