Traditionally, the Jeep® and Ram lineups aren’t known for their efficiency, but as electrification becomes the overall industry aim, both brands may be making the switch.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has reportedly announced that electric Jeep® vehiclesand Ram trucks are on the way.
Mike Manley, the current CEO of FCA, stated that the automaker was exploring new opportunities, including at least four plug-in hybrid vehicles and the possibility of a fully-electric model.
Many of those new hybrid models will be coming to the Jeep® family. A hybrid variation of the Jeep® Renegade and Jeep® Compass have already been confirmed. According to Sam Abuelsamid, an analyst at Navigant, “every (future) Jeep® they build will have a plug-in hybrid option.”
Perhaps even more intriguing is the possibility of an electric Ram truck. A pickup truck could benefit from an electric-based powertrain, since such a system actually increases torque.
It’s not like FCA is a stranger to hybrid models. Currently, the automaker offers a hybrid version of its popular Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
The automaker’s plans to bring electric and hybrid vehicles to Jeep® and Ram brands indicates just how big of a role EVs could play in future FCA vehicle lineups. Here at Carl Hogan Automotive, we can’t wait to hear more details about these electric vehicles that will eventually come to our dealership.
