Memorial Day falls on May 30th this year. This holiday, which honors those who have died while serving in the United States military, has origins that date back to post-Civil War times. The tradition of visiting cemeteries and decorating the graves of those who have fallen is something that continues today.

In 1971, Memorial Day was made an official federal holiday.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate Memorial Day in Columbus, Mississippi, you can attend the 4th Annual Veterans Memorial Walk/Run at the Columbus Soccer Complex on Saturday, May 28th.

If you pre-register by noon on May 20th, it will cost $25 and will include a t-shirt. On-site registration will still cost $25, but will not include a t-shirt. Registration the day of the race begins at 7am and the walk/run will start at 8am.
