When Chevrolet first began planning the 2016 Chevy Volt, it turned its attention to Chevrolet customers and listened to what the customers had to say. The result? A new, extended electric range that is better than ever before. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt will now have a total pure electric range of 53 miles, showing off a nearly 40 percent improvement compared to the first-generation Volt.
“We listened to our customers,” said Andrew Farah, vehicle chief engineer. “They were very clear when they told us that they wanted more range, and a fun driving experience behind the wheel. We are confident that the 2016 Volt delivers both.”
To extend the 2016 Chevrolet Volt electric range, the American carmaker fitted the hybrid with a new 1.5-liter range-extender. This extender uses regular unleaded gasoline to help offer a combined EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 42 miles per gallon.
