The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is about to get an exciting new engine. All-new for the 2020 model year, the 3.0-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel inline-six delivers an advanced blend of efficiency and power for Chevy’s flagship truck.
Chevy tells us that the Duramax turbo-diesel is rated for 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The engine achieves peak torque in the 1,500-3,000 rpm range, allowing it to smoothly maximize its capabilities.
The engine’s inline-six layout features a strong yet lightweight design that reduces friction. Active Thermal Management helps the engine warm-up swiftly in cold weather, operate at a more efficient temperature, and run with less wear and tear.
The turbo-diesel is mated to a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission with automatic stop/start technology. When the engine is operating in tow/haul mode, the transmission’s design allows for exhaust braking, which contributes to the engine’s efficiency and allows the driver to ease up on regular braking.
Coming soon, this all-new engine will be offered on four 2020 Silverado trims: the LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country. We haven’t heard yet exactly when the Duramax®-equipped Silverado will be available — but when it is, you’re sure to find it on the lot here at Carl Hogan Automotive.
