Dodge created a new variant of the reliable Durango this year called the Durango SRT Pursuit. The modified, police-intended SUV has the supercharged V8 from the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye muscle car, cranking out a staggering 797 horsepower. The suspension sits 15 mm lower, and the custom 20-inch wheels come wrapped in foot-wide Pirelli P-Zero tires. It’s definitely not something you want to see in your rearview mirror with the lights flashing.
The one-off build is an entry in the 2019 One Lap of America street car circuit. Dodge plans to defend its victory in last year’s Truck/SUV category. But someday, it may drive down the thin blue line.
Even as the non-modified, production version, the Dodge Durango makes a great SUV for the everyday man. It may not be 800 horsepower, but the powerful 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine on the SRT does provide a hefty 475 horsepower. That turns into the best-in-class maximum towing capacity of up to 8,700 pounds.
And though the boys in blue keep us safe, the Durango does it fair share of protection in its own way. Blind spot monitoring and innovative braking features provide a safer ride. The Rain Brake Support assists in wet weather by applying a small amount of pressure to the calipers when the wipers are on. And the standard ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera takes the stress out of parking.
Though you can’t ride in the Dodge Durango Police Vehicle, you can take a spin in the 2019 Dodge Durango here at Carl Hogan Automotive.
